Some universities are on edge as protests ramp up over the war between Israel and Hamas. More than 100 pro-Palestinian protestors were arrested at Columbia University Monday. The Cal Poly Humboldt campus is closed through Wednesday after police clashed with protestors who occupied campus buildings. Some Jewish students say they haven’t felt safe believing some of the protests have shifted from being pro-Palestinian to anti-Semitic.
Former President Donald Trump is back in court a day after the first witness in his criminal “Hush Money” trial was called to the stand. Former National Enquirer publisher David Pecker testified his company used “checkbook journalism” to pay for stories. He’ll be back on the stand today, expected to be asked about a 2015 meeting where he allegedly agreed to conceal negative information regarding Trump’s alleged sexual encounter with porn star, Stormy Daniels. But the court’s first order of business today is a hearing over whether Trump should be held in contempt for defying a gag order.
A woman’s body was discovered early Tuesday morning in front of Miami City Ballet on Miami Beach and a source tells CBS News Miami that she had major trauma to her face and was beaten to death. The source said she may have been a homeless woman and her body was discovered by a security guard. Police said they were called to the building at 2200 Liberty Avenue just after 6 a.m. Police say solving this case is a top priority and they are searching for surveillance tape. It is not known if they have any witnesses or have recovered a weapon in this case. Police Spokesman, Officer Christopher Bess, told CBS News Miami’s Peter D’Oench, that the victim was discovered unresponsive and was dead on the scene.
