How does it feel to be in a rip current? NBC6 takes you inside

A string of recent drownings from rip currents at beaches filled with summer revelers has raised concerns about the potentially deadly natural phenomenon.⁠

Last Friday, 13-year-old Jerry Hyppolite drowned in rough ocean waters off Fort Lauderdale. And a man died after he was pulled from the water in Surfside, authorities said.⁠

NBC6’s Marissa Bagg went into a rip current at Fort Lauderdale Beach to show viewers just how quickly you can be swept away.⁠
