Fluoride controversy causes debate on banning it from Florida water supply | Facing South Florida

In this week’s edition of Facing South Florida:

CBS News Miami’s Jim DeFede interviews former Florida Surgeon General Dr. Scott Rivkees about the state’s fluoride controversy.

The Miami-Dade commission recently voted to end the process of adding fluoride to the county’s water. Mayor Daniella Levine Cava vetoed that, and in two weeks, commissioners will have the opportunity to override her veto.

The anti-fluoride bill is being pushed statewide by Governor Ron DeSantis and his Surgeon General, Dr. Joseph Ladapo. Ladapo recently showed up at the recent county commission meeting to speak on behalf of the anti-fluoride bill.

Jim talks to Rivkees about all this.

Also, Jim interviews former congresswoman Donna Shalala, who was also a past president of the University of Miami and served as HHS secretary during the Clinton administration.

They talk about the cuts orchestrated by Elon Musk to her former department.
