Associate professor William Browne has never backed down from a challenge. Growing up in a military family, he joined the Marines after high school, initially planning to pursue a career in the military. But after a training accident left him with twisted vertebrae, Browne’s life took an unexpected turn. With a long-standing fascination for science, he decided to pursue a Ph.D. in molecular genetics and cell biology, marking the beginning of his journey into academia. During part of his sabbatical, he focused on research while also training for the Ironman Triathlon, one of the most grueling athletic events. He credits the long hours of training with providing the ideal mental space to dive deep into his data without distractions.
