A high school party in Cocoa Beach, Florida, led to child abuse charges against Roosevelt Elementary School Principal Elizabeth Hill-Brodigan and teacher Karly Anderson. The party, hosted on January 19 at Hill-Brodigan’s home, involved over 100 attendees, including underage drinkers, drug use, violence, and a series of dangerous incidents. Authorities charged Hill-Brodigan with child neglect, contributing to delinquency, and hosting an "open house party" with alcohol accessible to minors. Anderson faced similar charges.
The police found evidence of illegal activities, such as underage drinking, a student pointing a gun at another, and a girl with a blood alcohol level of 0.118. The party was reportedly a regular occurrence, with attendees claiming Hill-Brodigan allowed the event to continue without intervening. Both educators were placed on administrative leave by Brevard Public Schools, which expressed concern over the situation.
The party ended when a false report about shots fired led officers away, allowing the attendees to disperse before being held accountable. Hill-Brodigan and Anderson both pleaded not guilty and requested jury trials.
